The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has delayed the 2026 Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON). The decision followed a lengthy period of uncertainty about whether the tournament would occur as originally planned.
The event, initially set for 17 March to 3 April in Morocco, will now take place from 25 July to 16 August.
In a statement issued on Thursday, March 5, CAF explained that the postponement was necessary to ensure the success of the women’s competition. “After discussions between CAF and its partners, FIFA and other stakeholders, CAF decided to reschedule the dates of the TotalEnergies CAF WAFCON 2026, to July 25 to 16 August.
“This is to ensure the success of this important women’s competition, in the light of certain unforeseen circumstances.
“Preparations for the TotalEnergies CAF WAFCON 2026 are underway, and all the parties are confident that it will be very successful,” CAF noted.
16 teams will participate in the tournament, with Nigeria’s Super Falcons as the defending champion and most successful team, holding 10 titles.
