Troops from the Nigerian Army’s 13 Brigade saved 18 people, including two babies, after a boat was hij@cked on the waterways between Nigeria and Cameroon.
On January 11, 2026, some suspected sea pirates took over a passenger boat near the Kombo Fishing Port in Cameroon. The @ttackers, who had two speedboats and a wooden boat, kidnapped people travelling between Cameroon and Nigeria.
Major Yemi Sokoya, who is the Brigade Assistant Director of Public Relations, confirmed this in a statement that was posted on the Army X page on Monday.
We got a call saying that sea pirates in two speed boats and a wooden boat hij@cked a passenger boat going from Cameroon to Nigeria. The passengers were seized near the Kombo Fishing Port in Cameroon, the statement said.
The 13 Brigade troops at Ikang reacted fast and chased the criminals. They exchanged fire, and one of the pirates’ speed boats turned over. The pirates left the victims and ran away into the nearby creeks. All 18 passengers, including 2 babies, were saved without being h@rmed.
Brigadier General P. O. Alimikhena, the Commander of 13 Brigade, praised the troops for acting quickly and doing a good job. He said that the operation showed their bravery and skill.
