Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has been granted temporary release from the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
His release is to enable him to attend the burial of his mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, who reportedly passed away in Cairo on Friday, March 27.

According to a close associate, the anti-graft agency approved the move on humanitarian grounds, given the family’s loss.
His son, Bashir El-Rufai, confirmed the development on X, expressing gratitude to supporters and announcing that his father had been released from detention.
El-Rufai has been in ICPC custody since February 18 over allegations bordering on financial misconduct and related offences.
As of now, the commission has not issued an official statement outlining the terms of his temporary bail or what steps will follow in the case.
