Tinubu Makes Fresh Power & Oil Sector Appointments.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has named Professor Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu as the new Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF).

Aliyu takes over from Ahmed Galadima Aminu, who stepped down from the role to pursue his ambition of contesting in the 2027 governorship election in Adamawa State.

In a related development, the President has also approved the reappointment of Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) for a second and final term.

The appointments were announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, who noted that both decisions take immediate effect.

Before his new role, Professor Aliyu served as the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education. Widely regarded as an accomplished academic and administrator, he brings years of experience in research, education and institutional management.

His appointment, according to the presidency, reflects the administration’s plan to strengthen strategic institutions within Nigeria’s petroleum sector and deepen capacity building in the energy industry. The President expects him to use his experience to boost innovation, develop human capital and enhance the PTDF’s role in supporting the oil and gas sector.

Meanwhile, the renewal of Abdulaziz’s tenure at TCN followed a review of his performance overseeing the country’s power transmission network. During his first term, the company recorded improvements in grid stability, expanded transmission capacity and pursued modernisation projects across the national grid.

With more than three decades of experience in the power sector, Abdulaziz has also contributed to regional electricity cooperation through his involvement with the West African Power Pool.

President Tinubu urged both appointees to carry out their duties with professionalism, transparency and commitment to national development, in line with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
