Shameful: Bode George Blasts Saraki Over Wike-Backed PDP Convention.
Tensions within the Peoples Democratic Party have intensified after party elder and former Deputy National Chairman, Bode George, openly criticised former Senate President, Bukola Saraki for attending a controversial national convention organised by a faction loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
The convention, held at the MKO Abiola National Stadium Velodrome in Abuja, is the latest development in the deepening leadership crisis rocking the opposition party.
The ongoing dispute has split the PDP into rival camps, each claiming legitimacy over the party’s national structure.
George is aligned with a separate faction led by Tanimu Turaki, whose National Working Committee emerged from a convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, in November last year. However, the Court of Appeal recently nullified that gathering and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission not to recognise it — a ruling that has further complicated the party’s internal battle.
Speaking during an interview, George did not hold back in his criticism of Saraki’s actions at the Wike-aligned convention.
According to him, if others are reluctant to confront the former Senate President, he is ready to speak plainly.
George stressed that he is not Saraki’s contemporary in politics and questioned the former Senate President’s political record, claiming Saraki had not demonstrated exemplary leadership throughout his career.
He also took issue with Saraki referring to Wike as his political leader during the convention, describing the moment as embarrassing.
George said it was disgraceful to see Saraki celebrating publicly on the podium while declaring loyalty to Wike.
The PDP chieftain went further to accuse Saraki of putting personal ambitions ahead of democratic ideals.
He argued that democracy should represent the collective will of the people, not the interests of a single individual or family.
George also questioned Saraki’s journey into politics, pointing out that the former Senate President initially studied medicine before venturing into public life.
Despite the sharp criticism, George insisted he was prepared to confront Saraki directly if necessary.
According to him, if others refuse to speak up, he is willing to tell Saraki the truth “not once, but many times,” adding that he is ready for any response that may follow.
