In the vibrant city of Lagos, where the pulse of Africa beats strongest, two leaders emerged to shape the destiny of a nation. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a seasoned statesman, and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, a dynamic innovator, joined forces to transform the landscape of Lagos.
The people of Lagos are abuzz with excitement. Today, Wednesday 8th April and tomorrow, Thursday 9th April will be the unveiling of six game-changing projects, a testament to the unwavering commitment of Governor Sanwo-Olu to make Lagos a beacon of progress.
As a young leader, Sanwo-Olu had always dreamed of a Lagos where traffic flows freely, where land records are digitised, and where children have access to world-class education. His journey began with a vision, and with President Tinubu’s support, he set out to turn it into reality.
Building on the foundations laid by visionary predecessors like Bola Tinubu, who initiated the transformation of Lagos, and Babatunde Fashola, who accelerated the pace of development, Sanwo-Olu has continued to push the boundaries. The likes of Akinwunmi Ambode also contributed to the State’s growth, and now, Sanwo-Olu is taking it to the next level.
The iconic Opebi-Mende-Ojota Link bridge, a marvel of engineering, would ease the commute for thousands, connecting Toyin, Allen, Opebi, Ojota, and Maryland. The Lagos State Geographic Information Service (LAGIS) Building would revolutionise land ownership, making it a breeze to register titles and own property.
The Lagos State Multi-Agency Complex, a hub of efficiency, would bring together key government agencies under one roof, fostering collaboration and innovation. The mid-level Agro Food Hub, Abijo, would become a haven for food entrepreneurs, boosting the local economy and ensuring food security.
The Total Regeneration and upgrade of the Tolu Schools Complex would transform 36 schools, empowering the next generation with modern classrooms, ICT labs, and sporting facilities. And the Maracana Stadium, Ajegunle, would ignite a passion for sports, nurturing young talent and promoting healthy living.
As the people of Lagos will gather to celebrate these milestones, they know that Governor Sanwo-Olu’s legacy is etched in gold. These #LegacyProjects would stand the test of time, a testament to his dedication to progress. #GreaterLagosRising was more than a hashtag – it was a movement.
President Tinubu’s presence is a reminder of the power of collaboration, as he joins the people of Lagos to celebrate a new era of growth and development. Together, these leaders have shown that with vision, innovation, and determination, anything is possible.

But, as many Lagosians can attest, this wasn’t always the case. Not so long ago, driving through the city’s streets was a test of endurance. Potholes, traffic congestion, and crumbling infrastructure made every journey a challenge. The roads were a labyrinth, and finding a smooth path was a luxury. The Opebi-Mende-Ojota stretch, in particular, was notorious for its gridlocks and potholes, swallowing hours of productivity and testing the patience of even the most stoic commuters.
But today, thanks to the relentless efforts of Governor Sanwo-Olu and his predecessors, Lagos is shedding its old skin. The city’s roads are transforming, and with them, the very fabric of life in Lagos is changing. As the city rises, so do the hopes and dreams of its people. And as they take to the newly unveiled roads, they’ll know that progress is not just a promise, it’s a reality..
As I, Atinuke Otedola reminisces about the past, I remember how rough the roads were and how harsh the country was then.
