Rapper iHeartMemphis in Fresh Trouble After Wild Chase From Police
American rapper iHeartMemphis has landed in serious legal trouble once again, after being arrested in Florida over allegations of burglary and attempting to escape from police.
The artiste, whose real name is Richard Maurice Colbert, was taken into custody on February 18, only days after he had been released from detention linked to a separate case involving alleged threats and obstruction of officers.
Police say the drama began in his neighbourhood in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where officers were called to the scene after he reportedly blocked a public roadway using traffic cones, plants, and cinder blocks. When authorities asked him to clear the obstruction, he allegedly refused and then tried to make a run for it.
Investigators claim Colbert fled on foot, jumping fences and cutting through several backyards while attempting to enter nearby homes. Officers eventually tracked him down at another residence and arrested him. He was later taken to a hospital to treat a leg injury before being formally booked.
Prosecutors have charged him with three felony counts of burglary, alongside misdemeanour charges for obstructing a roadway and resisting officers without violence. Another charge stems from alleged written threats made earlier.
Colbert has pleaded not guilty to all allegations and has requested a trial. He remains in custody and is expected to appear in court on April 14.
