The Lagos State Government has denied a Sahara Reporters story alleging that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was “ordered to resign on health grounds,” calling the report false and misleading.
In a press statement on Sunday, April 27, 2026, Gboyega Akosile, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor, said nobody asked Sanwo-Olu to step down.
He added that the Governor “remains in good health, of sound mind, and is actively discharging his duties as Governor of Lagos State.”
Akosile described the Sahara Reporters story as “false in its entirety” and part of what he called a pattern of disinformation by the outlet.
The statement noted that Governor Sanwo-Olu earlier on Sunday received Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, who paid a courtesy visit to formally notify him of his intention to contest for the governorship. The meeting, Akosile said, was “held in a cordial atmosphere, as is customary.”
The government said it would ordinarily ignore such reports but issued the clarification “to prevent the public from being misled by deliberate falsehoods.”
It urged Lagosians to disregard the Sahara Reporters story and treat it as fake news.
