LAGOS, Nigeria — Nollywood actor turned lawmaker Desmond Elliot has dismissed rumors of a political feud as he confirms his bid for a fourth term in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Elliot, who represents Surulere Constituency I, said he remains focused on service delivery and has no conflict with party leaders or constituents.
Elliot Addresses Feud Speculation
Speaking at a town hall meeting in Surulere on Wednesday, Elliot described the feud claims as “baseless distractions.”
“I have no fight with anyone. My relationship with the party and my people remains solid,” he told supporters.
The rumors surfaced online this week, alleging tension between Elliot and unnamed APC stakeholders ahead of the 2027 elections. Elliot called the reports “fabricated” and urged residents to ignore divisive narratives.
Fourth Term Ambition for Surulere
Elliot confirmed he will seek re-election to continue projects in Surulere. He was first elected in 2015 and won re-election in 2019 and 2023.
“My work is not done. We have roads to complete, schools to upgrade, and youth programs to expand,” he said.
He listed past achievements including the rehabilitation of Adelabu Street, distribution of learning materials, and empowerment schemes for traders and artisans.
Response to Critics and 2027 Outlook
Elliot faced criticism during the 2023 campaign over comments on youth engagement. He acknowledged past missteps but said his record speaks for him.
“I have learned, grown, and delivered. Surulere deserves consistent representation,” he stated.
The lawmaker said consultations with party leaders and community heads are ongoing. He expressed confidence in securing the APC ticket for the 2027 Lagos Assembly race.
Constituency Projects and Community Ties
Residents at the meeting cited Elliot’s accessibility and support during COVID-19 as reasons for continued backing. Market leader Mrs. Funmi Adeyemi said, “He picks our calls and shows up.”
Elliot pledged to prioritize healthcare access and tech training for youth if re-elected. He also announced plans for a new ICT hub in Aguda.
APC Lagos has not released its timetable for the 2027 primaries. Party spokesman Seye Oladejo declined to comment on individual aspirants but said the process will be transparent.
Elliot urged constituents to register for voter cards ahead of 2027. “Our strength is in our numbers. Let’s stay united,” he said.
