BREAKING: Denmark’s Former Queen, Margrethe, Hospitalised

Concern spread across Denmark on Thursday after former monarch, Queen Margrethe II was rushed to hospital following health complications linked to angina.
The Danish royal court confirmed that the 86-year-old former queen was admitted for treatment and observation, assuring the public that although she is tired, she remains in good spirits.
In a statement released on May 14, 2026, the palace disclosed that Margrethe would remain under medical supervision throughout the weekend while doctors carry out further examinations.
The former monarch stepped down from the throne in 2024, handing over royal duties to her eldest son, King Frederik X.
Margrethe’s hospitalisation comes just days after she attended the commemoration marking the 80th anniversary of Denmark’s liberation at Mindelunden in Ryvangen, Copenhagen, on May 4, 2025.
The development has sparked concern among royal watchers and citizens across Denmark as the country closely monitors updates on the former queen’s health.
