FG to Begin Planning for 2026 Detty December in March, Says Minister
Hannatu Musawa, the Minister of Art, Culture, and Creative Economy, mentioned that the government will start getting ready for the 2026 Detty December events way back in March.
In a podcast with Seun Okinbaloye on MIC ON, Musawa said that Detty December in 2025 went pretty well, with more good than bad. She pointed out that even with some problems, tourism and the economy did pretty well.
Detty December is what Nigerians call the end-of-year party time. There are concerts and all sorts of fun stuff, mostly in Lagos. It’s become a hotspot for tourists from everywhere.
The minister said that in 2025, the main problems were not enough places to stay, things costing too much, and crazy traffic. She thinks things need to be watched closely to keep the good times rolling.
She said they are looking closely into how 2025’s Detty December went. And that the biggest problem was that there were not enough rooms and that sellers charged too much.

Musawa shared that they want to have events in other states too, not just Lagos. Places like Calabar, Enugu, and Plateau could get a boost in tourism.
She added that they are planning to get the word out about this year’s Detty December starting in March.
The minister also said that the new Lagos airport should make things better for visitors. She wants the government to help out with things like roads, hotels, and giving money to creative projects.
She also said that the government needs to step in and fix the overpricing and traffic jams. If things cost too much, only rich people will be able to come, and that will not be good.
