Lagos Commissioner Commissions Nautica Beach Resort in Lekki, Hails Private Sector Investment in Tourism

LEKKI, LAGOS – The Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Toke Benson-Awoyinka, has officially commissioned the new Nautica Beach Resort, describing the development as a major boost for tourism and hospitality in Lagos State.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony held on June 6, 2026, the Commissioner said the project represents more than the opening of a new leisure destination. According to her, it reflects growing investor confidence in Nigeria’s tourism industry and demonstrates the impact of strong collaboration between the government and the private sector.

Tourism Driving Economic Growth

Mrs Benson-Awoyinka noted that tourism has become a powerful economic tool that extends beyond recreation and leisure. She explained that the sector contributes significantly to job creation, investment attraction, and the growth of industries such as hospitality, transportation, entertainment, arts, and culture.

She stated that destinations like Nautica Beach Resort have the potential to unlock new economic opportunities while creating employment and supporting small businesses across the tourism value chain.

According to the Commissioner, the Lagos State Government remains committed to creating an enabling environment that encourages responsible investment and sustainable tourism development.

Nautica Vision Goes Beyond a Beach Resort

The Commissioner praised the management, investors, and partners behind the project for their confidence in Lagos State’s tourism potential, particularly along its coastal corridor.

She added that the broader Nautica vision extends beyond a traditional beach resort. Instead, it seeks to create an integrated ecosystem combining hospitality, marine recreation, entertainment, events, lifestyle experiences, and investment opportunities.

Mrs Benson-Awoyinka said the development could become one of the most significant tourism assets in Lagos and Nigeria.

“It is an honour and privilege to officially commission Nautica Beach Resort. May it prosper, create opportunities, attract visitors from around the world, and contribute meaningfully to the growth of our tourism economy,” she said.

She further noted that the project demonstrates Nigeria’s ability to develop world-class tourism destinations capable of competing on the global stage.

Founder Highlights Long-Term Vision

In his remarks, Adetoro Bank-Omotoye, Founder and Chairman of Nautica Beach Resort, described the project as the realisation of a vision that many initially considered too ambitious.

According to him, the resort was conceived as part of a wider ecosystem where tourism, hospitality, entertainment, business, investment, culture, and lifestyle can operate together within one destination.

“Nautica is visible proof that vision, when pursued with discipline, determination, and persistence, can become reality,” he said.

Dr Bank-Omotoye explained that the goal was to create a destination where people can relax, celebrate, connect, invest, and thrive.
