The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested two persons living with disabilities in separate anti-drug operations, as a nationwide crackdown also led to the arrest of several other suspects and the seizure of large quantities of illicit substances across multiple states.
The Agency disclosed the arrests in a statement issued on Sunday by its Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, at the NDLEA headquarters in Abuja.
In Abia State, a 60-year-old woman living with a disability, Chidimma Sunday, was apprehended by a local vigilante group in Umuosu, Umuna Autonomous Community, Isialangwa North Local Government Area, after she was allegedly found with 1.8 kilograms of skunk. She was handed over to NDLEA officials on Wednesday, June 10.
In a separate operation in Rivers State, NDLEA operatives arrested a 28-year-old man living with a disability, Abubakar Usman, during a raid at Rumuokoro in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, June 9.
He was allegedly found in possession of 400 grams of skunk, five grams of methamphetamine, 100 grams of tramadol, five grams of swinol and 18 grams of diazepam.
The anti-narcotics agency also recorded other major arrests across the country.
In Kano State, a 39-year-old woman, Ngozi Gaius, was arrested along the Zaria-Kano Road on Friday, June 12, while allegedly transporting 6,000 tablets of 225mg tramadol.
In Kwara State, operatives intercepted Nasiru Hamza, 47, and Muhammad Sani, 38, on Bode Saadu Road on Tuesday, June 9. The duo were allegedly transporting 600 compressed blocks of skunk weighing 304 kilograms in a black Toyota Jeep with registration number PJHR 783.
In Taraba State, NDLEA operatives, acting on intelligence, raided the warehouse of a suspected drug dealer, Ali Adamu, 45, in Maihula village, Bali Local Government Area, on Saturday, June 13. During the operation, officers recovered 63 jumbo bags of cannabis sativa weighing 1,121.5 kilograms.
Also on Saturday, June 13, NDLEA operatives on patrol along the Gwagwalada Expressway in the Federal Capital Territory arrested Emmanuel Nnadi, 46, with a cache of suspected illicit drugs, including 30,400 pills of tramadol (225mg and 100mg), 750 pills of pregabalin 300mg, 200 pills of molly and 592 bottles of codeine-based syrup.
In Lagos State, the Agency recovered a massive consignment of Ghana Loud, a strain of cannabis, weighing 1,102 kilograms around the Alaba International Market in the Ojo area during another operation carried out on Saturday, June 13.
