Former Secretary to the Benue State Government, Prof. David Salifu, is dead after reportedly suffering gunshot wounds during an attack by suspected kidnappers.
The former government official was said to have come under attack on Thursday while travelling from Wukari in Taraba State to Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
Reports indicated that although Prof. Salifu managed to escape from the attackers, he sustained gunshot injuries in the process.
He was immediately taken to a hospital in Makurdi for medical attention but was later pronounced dead on Thursday night.
As of the time of filing this report, details surrounding the attack remain unclear, while security authorities are yet to release an official statement on the incident.
Attempts to get a response from the Police Public Relations Officer of the Benue State Command were unsuccessful, as calls made to her phone were not answered.
