What appeared to be a routine cash collection at a bank in south London turned out to be an audacious deception that saw more than £117,000 disappear in broad daylight.
A 40-year-old Ghanaian man, Kwabena Kissi, has now been sentenced in the United Kingdom after admitting to stealing £117,000 from a branch of Santander bank in Brixton in July 2022.
Kissi pleaded guilty to fraud by false representation after allegedly using a fake identity and an old uniform belonging to G4S Security Services to gain access to the bank’s secure areas.
CCTV footage presented in court and reported by the Daily Mail showed him arriving at the bank wearing a helmet, face covering and his former security uniform while carrying a briefcase resembling one used by security cash collection teams.
Once inside, Kissi reportedly persuaded staff to allow him into a restricted section of the bank before being handed cash amounting to £117,200.
The footage later captured him leaving the building, changing clothes and walking away with a bag containing the money before ordering an Uber and leaving the area.
Bank staff only discovered the cash had been taken when a genuine G4S security officer arrived for the scheduled collection.
According to court reports, Kissi travelled to Accra the following day and remained in Ghana for almost four years.
He was arrested in March 2026 after returning to the United Kingdom, where police intercepted him at Gatwick Airport.
Investigators said Kissi had used his real name and personal phone number to book the Uber ride after the theft, a mistake that ultimately helped officers track him down.
He initially claimed he had been mistaken for someone else, but detectives later recovered the same phone believed to have been used during the operation.
Sentencing him to three years and four months in prison, Judge Rosa Dean said Kissi had taken advantage of his “inside knowledge” to carry out the theft.
