The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued a final reminder to eligible Nigerians as the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise officially closes today, Sunday, July 26, 2026.
The Commission urged citizens who have not registered, or those who need to update their voter information, to use the remaining opportunity before the deadline expires.
INEC made the announcement in a post on X on Sunday, reminding Nigerians that registration is a requirement for anyone who wishes to vote in the 2027 general election.
“Time is running out, but there’s still an opportunity to make your voice count,” the Commission stated.
“Register to vote or update your voter information before the close of Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) today, Sunday, 26 July 2026.”
According to the electoral body, prospective voters can complete the process through its CVR portal or visit any of its state and local government offices before the exercise ends.
The registration exercise also covers requests for voter transfers, corrections to personal information and the replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
The deadline marks the end of a nationwide voter registration exercise conducted in phases over the past year.
The first phase began in August 2025 with online pre-registration, while physical registration commenced on August 25. By the end of the phase in December, INEC had recorded 2,572,054 completed registrations nationwide, comprising 1,503,832 online registrations and 1,068,222 completed through in-person enrollment.
The second phase was conducted between January 5 and April 17, 2026, with 3,748,704 completed registrations recorded across the country.
INEC subsequently commenced the third phase in May and later extended the exercise by two weeks in July to give more eligible Nigerians additional time to participate.
With the deadline now reached, the Commission urged prospective voters not to delay, stressing that registration is essential for citizens who want to take part in next year’s elections.
