Amnesty International has condemned the reported killing of more than 30 residents in a fresh attack on Naridon Village, Kamaru Ward, in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The rights organisation described the incident as one of the deadliest attacks recorded in Southern Kaduna, accusing Nigerian authorities of failing to adequately protect vulnerable communities from recurring violence.
In a statement issued on Monday, July 27, 2026, Amnesty International said the attack occurred on Saturday night, with residents reportedly targeted by gunmen as they attempted to escape.
The organisation alleged that several residents who fled the attackers were pursued into nearby bushes, while the community continued efforts to establish the full number of casualties.
“Amnesty International strongly condemns the killing of at least 30 people in an attack by gunmen two days ago on Naridon Village in Kamaru Ward, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State,” the organisation said.
It added that dozens of people who attempted to escape were pursued into the bush by the attackers.
Amnesty International also said several residents remained missing after the attack, while more bodies were reportedly being discovered in homes and surrounding farms.
The rights group criticised President Bola Tinubu’s repeated assurances that security agencies had been directed to end the persistent killings across rural communities, arguing that the latest incident showed that the situation remained largely unchanged.
“President Bola Tinubu claims he has repeatedly tasked security agencies to end the killings so that rural communities can go to bed with their eyes closed, but clearly nothing has changed,” Amnesty International stated.
According to the organisation, the attack had a devastating impact on families in the affected community, with photographs obtained from the scene showing the aftermath of the violence.
Amnesty International described the incident as “perhaps one of the deadliest attacks on Southern Kaduna villages,” noting that some communities in the region had experienced similar attacks more than five times.
The organisation said the repeated violence had forced many residents to abandon their homes because of fears of further attacks.
“This is perhaps one of the deadliest attacks on Southern Kaduna villages. Some villages in Southern Kaduna have experienced such attacks more than five times. More villages are deserted as a result of fear of more attacks,” it said.
The rights group further accused the authorities of failing to protect residents and bring those responsible for the attacks to justice, warning that the lack of accountability was encouraging further violence.
“The spate of these killings is evidence of the failure of authorities to protect the people. The inability of authorities to bring attackers to justice is fueling impunity,” Amnesty International stated.
It called on the Government to fulfil its constitutional responsibility to protect citizens, saying the rising death toll in Southern Kaduna reflected a serious failure by the authorities.
“The Government has an obligation to protect its population. The rising death toll in Southern Kaduna shows just how badly the authorities are failing in this responsibility,” the organisation added.
