The Lagos State Government has announced that property owners and developers can now apply for and obtain planning approvals online from anywhere in the world through the Electronic Planning Permit Processing System (EPPPS).
The initiative is part of the state government’s efforts to modernise the planning approval process, reduce physical paperwork and make it easier for residents, developers and property investors to obtain the necessary approvals for construction projects.
According to a notice published by the Lagos State Government on its official X account, applicants no longer need to be physically present in Lagos to begin or complete the planning approval process.
The EPPPS allows applications to be submitted electronically, providing property owners and developers, including those living outside Nigeria, with remote access to the state’s planning permit services.
The platform was introduced under the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and commenced full automation of the planning permit process on April 1, 2026.
The state government said the automated system is designed to simplify and modernise planning permit administration across Lagos while improving efficiency and accessibility.
The development is particularly significant for Nigerians in the diaspora and property investors who own or intend to develop property in Lagos but may not always be available to visit the state physically to process planning approvals.
With the online system, applicants can initiate the process remotely and follow the progress of their applications through the electronic platform.
The move is also expected to reduce some of the delays and administrative challenges traditionally associated with obtaining planning approvals, while improving transparency in the permit process.
For property owners and developers, obtaining the appropriate planning approval remains an important requirement before commencing development, as unauthorised construction can result in enforcement action by the authorities.
The Lagos State Government’s decision to fully automate the process therefore represents a significant shift toward digital access to planning and development services.
