ABUJA, Nigeria: Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has unveiled the leadership structure of his Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Senator Augustine Okwudiri Akobundu was appointed Director-General and Campaign Manager, with responsibility for coordinating the campaign’s operations and structures across the country.
Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, was named Deputy Chairman, while Kashim Ibrahim-Imam will serve as Chairman of the Presidential Campaign Council.
Veteran journalist and publisher Dele Momodu was appointed Deputy Director-General of the Media and Communications Directorate. He will oversee the campaign’s media activities across traditional, broadcast and digital platforms.
Former Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye was also named as part of the campaign’s Contact and Mobilisation structure, with responsibility for outreach, mobilisation and public engagement.
The campaign’s policy structure will be coordinated by economist and banker Mohammed Hayatudeen, while former Central Bank of Nigeria Deputy Governor, Professor Kingsley Moghalu, is among those listed on the policy team.
Former Edo State Governor and pioneer National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, John Oyegun, will chair the Campaign Advisory Council.
According to the campaign, the structure is organised around six major operational directorates, with Deputy Directors-General and directors assigned specific responsibilities.
The campaign said the arrangement was designed with clearly defined roles and responsibilities as the ADC prepares for the 2027 presidential election.
Akobundu, a retired Colonel of the Nigerian Army and former Minister of State for Defence, currently represents Abia Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly. He has also held several positions within the party structure.
The announcement was made by Phrank Shaibu, Director of Strategic Communication of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council.
The appointments mark the formal unveiling of a major part of Atiku’s campaign machinery as political parties and candidates continue preparations for the 2027 general elections.
