Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has formally declared his ambition to contest for the Imo West Senatorial seat under the platform of the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 elections.
The Governor made the announcement on Sunday through his verified social media platforms, confirming weeks of speculation about his next political move after leaving office.
Uzodimma is expected to face stiff competition within the APC, with former Imo Governor, Rochas Okorocha and incumbent Senator, Osita Izunaso also eyeing the same senatorial ticket.
Just two weeks ago, APC leaders from Imo West reportedly purchased the Party’s nomination form for Uzodimma, insisting he remained their consensus choice for the race.
Explaining his decision to run, the Governor said he accepted the call from the people of Imo West in order to continue supporting the “Renewed Hope” agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu while pushing for greater development in the district.
According to him, the Imo West senatorial seat belongs to the APC, and he sees himself as a loyal party candidate committed to promoting the vision and ideals of the ruling Party.
Uzodimma also disclosed that he had already appeared before the APC leadership and the Party’s screening committee for the National Assembly primary election.
“My dear people of Imo West Senatorial District have once again called upon me to serve, and I have accepted this noble call with utmost humility, sincerity of purpose, and unwavering commitment to the collective advancement of our people,” he said.
The Governor added that his ambition to represent Imo West in the Senate was driven by a desire to strengthen quality representation, effective legislation and sustainable development for the people.
He further praised the APC for what he described as its commitment to purposeful leadership and people-focused governance across Nigeria.
Uzodimma’s entry into the race is expected to intensify political calculations within the APC in Imo State, especially with multiple high-profile contenders already battling for the coveted ticket.
