Turkey Seeks Entry into Nigeria’s E-Visa Program

Turkey wants Nigeria to add Turkish citizens to its e-visa program. This would make getting visas easier. It should also help the two countries get closer.

Turkey’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Mehmet Poroy, asked Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, about this at a meeting.

The goal is to make business trips easier for Turkish investors.

Poroy said that because there’s no Nigerian visa office in Istanbul, Turkish people have to go all the way to Ankara to get a visa. This can be a pain.

Tunji-Ojo replied that it’s not good for either country to turn down real business people from Nigeria or Turkey who need visas.

He said that the ministry wants to be open, talk things out, and keep making the visa process better. Nigeria welcomes real investors and international business partners.

They also talked about getting visas faster for Nigerian business people going to Turkey, making visa rules clearer for Turkish investors visiting Nigeria, and checking documents like marriage certificates.

Tunji-Ojo clarified that marriage certificates issued under Nigerian law are valid. They don’t need extra checking.

Both sides agreed to have clear and practical visa rules and to work together more on business and diplomacy.

Last November, Ambassador Poroy said that Turkey is letting its embassy in Abuja give visas straight to Nigerian business travellers without asking Ankara first. He said this should help the two countries do more business together.
