Thomas Tuchel has thrown his support behind Ben White, saying the Arsenal defender has earned another shot with the national team after being recalled for the first time in over three years.
White’s return comes ahead of England’s World Cup warm-up matches against Uruguay and Japan. The defender had stepped away from the squad during the 2022 FIFA World Cup for personal reasons and remained unavailable throughout Gareth Southgate’s tenure, which ended after UEFA Euro 2024.
Speaking ahead of the Uruguay clash, Tuchel made it clear he’s focused on a clean slate rather than past issues. He revealed that when he reached out, White didn’t hesitate, making it known he was eager to return and represent England again.
While the manager expects fans to welcome White back, he acknowledged there may still be conversations to be had within the squad, particularly with players who shared the World Cup camp with him.
England will face Uruguay at Wembley Stadium before taking on Japan at the same venue a few days later, as preparations continue for the upcoming World Cup in North America.
