Night of Terror in Derby: Driver Mows Down Pedestrians, Arrested for Attempted Murder.

Panic gripped the city of Derby after a driver ploughed into pedestrians on a busy street, leaving several people injured and triggering a major police response.

The shocking incident unfolded around 9:30 p.m. on Friar Gate, a lively area in the city centre. Seven victims sustained serious injuries, though authorities confirmed none were life-threatening. Emergency responders treated them at the scene before rushing them to hospital.

Police, supported by counter-terrorism officers, have since launched an intensive investigation. While specialists are involved, authorities say the case is not currently being handled as a terrorist attack, stressing that such support is routine in incidents of this scale.

Officers tracked down the suspected vehicle – a black Suzuki Swift – within minutes and arrested a 36-year-old man, who remains in custody.

The suspect, originally from India but long resident in the UK, is facing multiple serious charges, including attempted murder, dangerous driving, and causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Despite the disturbing nature of the attack, police have moved to calm fears, assuring residents that they believe the incident to be isolated and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
