A young couple has been brought before a court following a tragic road crash that claimed the life of a 13-year-old boy. The case has drawn widespread attention after the teenager died in a late-night collision involving a car, a bicycle and a scooter.
The victim, Noah Campbell, lost his life shortly before midnight on Friday in Flitwick. Two other teenage boys were also caught up in the crash and were rushed to hospital with serious injuries.
At a hearing in Luton Magistrates’ Court, 24-year-old Jamie Fountain and 23-year-old Ellie Ireland faced multiple charges linked to the incident.
Fountain, from Fir Tree Close in Flitwick, has been charged with causing death by careless driving, as well as causing death while allegedly over the legal limit for alcohol and drugs. Prosecutors also accused him of two counts of causing serious injury by careless driving, failing to stop after the crash, failing to report the accident and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.
Ireland, who lives on Wingate Drive in nearby Ampthill, faces a charge of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.
The court was told that Fountain, a groundworker, had been driving a BMW when the collision occurred, while Ireland — his girlfriend and an employee of EasyJet — was travelling in the passenger seat.
Both defendants were remanded in custody after the hearing and are expected to appear next at Luton Crown Court on 5 May.
Family members of the victim and relatives of the accused were present in court during the proceedings.
Police confirmed that one of the two injured teenagers remains in hospital in a serious condition.
In a heartfelt tribute released through authorities, Noah’s family described him as a “fun, bright and athletic” boy who was widely loved by those around him. They also remembered him as a talented and versatile sportsman whose life was cut tragically short.
