Nigeria and Germany are set to hold high-level bilateral consultations in Abuja as both countries move to deepen their longstanding diplomatic and strategic partnership.
The meeting will take place on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, when Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, receives Germany’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Johann David Wadephul, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja.
The visit is expected to provide an opportunity for both countries to review their bilateral relationship and explore new areas of cooperation.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday, July 21, by the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the visit reflects the longstanding partnership between Nigeria and Germany, built on mutual respect, shared democratic values, economic cooperation and a joint commitment to promoting regional and global peace, security, stability and sustainable development.
Ebienfa said Germany remains one of Nigeria’s foremost strategic partners in Europe, with cooperation covering trade and investment, renewable energy, climate action, technical assistance, education, healthcare, migration, agriculture, digital innovation and security.
Discussions during the consultations are expected to focus on expanding economic and commercial ties, attracting more German investment into Nigeria’s priority sectors, strengthening cooperation in renewable energy and green industrialisation, promoting vocational education and skills development, as well as deepening collaboration in science, technology and innovation.
The Ministry spokesperson said the consultations would also allow both ministers to conduct a comprehensive review of Nigeria-Germany relations and assess progress made in implementing existing bilateral agreements and areas of cooperation.
“The Federal Government of Nigeria values its strategic partnership with the Federal Republic of Germany and remains committed to deepening bilateral cooperation in areas of shared interest for the mutual benefit of both countries and their peoples,” the statement said.
Nigeria, according to the Ministry, is looking forward to productive engagements that will further consolidate the existing friendship between both countries and create new opportunities for collaboration in support of inclusive economic growth, regional stability and shared prosperity.
The Ministry expressed confidence that Wadephul’s visit would further strengthen the excellent relations between Nigeria and Germany while reaffirming the shared commitment of both countries to addressing common global challenges through dialogue, partnership and constructive engagement.
