A tragic accident involving a vehicle from the convoy of Bola Ahmed Tinubu has left three people dead in Bayelsa State. The incident happened on Friday during the president’s one-day working visit to the state.
The victims, including a 17-year-old girl, reportedly lost their lives when one of the vehicles in the presidential convoy lost control and crashed into roadside structures at Obogoro, near the approach to the Dr Goodluck Jonathan Bridge.
According to eyewitnesses, the convoy was heading toward the Angiama-Oporoma Bridge when the last vehicle suddenly veered off the road. The car reportedly ploughed into a mechanic workshop and nearby buildings before it was eventually stopped by concrete barriers left behind after construction work by Julius Berger.
Security personnel quickly moved the driver away from the crash scene. When onlookers tried to approach the vehicle, police reportedly fired tear gas to disperse the crowd as tensions rose in the area.
The bodies of the victims — a teenage girl and two adult men — were later recovered from the wreckage.
As of the time of the report, the Bayelsa State Police Command had not issued an official statement on the incident.
Meanwhile, another dramatic moment from the visit also drew attention online. A viral video showed a heated confrontation between security personnel attached to the presidential convoy.
In the footage, a driver of a vehicle marked “Naval Police” is seen arguing with another driver before a soldier approached and threw a punch, triggering a chaotic fight between personnel from both sides while stunned civilians watched.
The clash reportedly happened as the President was leaving the venue of an official event.
Reacting to the video, Abi Folorunso, Director of Naval Information, confirmed that the officers involved had been arrested and were undergoing disciplinary procedures in line with military regulations.
