Today, I had the honour of commissioning the state-of-the-art manufacturing facility of Sam Pharmaceuticals in Ota. This milestone represents a major step forward for both the company and our vision for industrial growth in Ogun State.
This significant investment reinforces my confidence in Ogun State as one of Nigeria’s premier destinations for industrial and healthcare manufacturing.
Ota, in particular, has long been recognised as a key industrial hub, home to one of the highest concentrations of manufacturing businesses in the country, making it the ideal location for strategic investments that drive innovation, economic development, and job creation.
The commissioning of this facility also reflects our administration’s deliberate commitment to encouraging local pharmaceutical production.
We aim to improve access to safe and high-quality medicines while creating sustainable employment opportunities for our people. A strong healthcare system relies on a vibrant pharmaceutical manufacturing sector capable of meeting the health needs of our growing population.
Sam Pharmaceuticals has been a trusted name in Nigeria’s pharmaceutical industry for over five decades. The company produces a wide range of medicines across various therapeutic areas, including treatments for malaria, diabetes, and heart conditions.
With more than 120 NAFDAC-approved products, their medicines serve hospitals, government institutions, and healthcare providers nationwide. This facility will expand their capacity to produce more medicines to meet increasing demand.
As a government, we are intentional about supporting and patronising indigenous manufacturers.
We have put in place a clear policy to prioritise the procurement of medicines and health commodities from local producers. This approach is critical to strengthening Nigeria’s medicine security, reducing reliance on imports, conserving foreign exchange, and empowering homegrown companies like Sam Pharmaceuticals to grow, innovate, and compete effectively on a global scale.
Beyond the healthcare impact, this new facility will also play a significant role in job creation and skills development. It will provide opportunities for pharmacists, engineers, scientists, technicians, and other professionals, while also supporting small and medium-scale businesses that supply raw materials, packaging, logistics, and other essential services within the pharmaceutical industry.
The establishment of this facility is not only a major milestone for Sam Pharmaceuticals but also a boost to our broader vision of positioning Ogun State as a hub for manufacturing, innovation, and healthcare excellence in Nigeria and across West Africa.
