Lagos is stepping up its security game – and a major partnership is taking shape behind the scenes.
In a move that signals renewed urgency around community safety, the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, Ayodele Ogunsan, paid a strategic visit to the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency, setting the tone for deeper collaboration in protecting residents across the State.
The visit wasn’t just ceremonial – it opened the door to stronger coordination between two of Lagos’ key security institutions. At the meeting, the General Manager of LNSA, Ifalade Oyekan, presented a detailed overview of the Agency’s operations, including its milestones, current challenges, and plans.
He also walked the LSSTF boss through the Agency’s journey since its creation, highlighting how it has grown into a critical force in grassroots security – working within communities to gather intelligence, prevent crime, and support law enforcement agencies.
For context, the LNSA operates as a community-based security outfit in Lagos, complementing the work of the police by focusing on local intelligence and rapid response within neighbourhoods. On the other hand, the LSSTF plays a vital role in funding and equipping security agencies across the State – providing vehicles, communication tools, and other logistics that strengthen crime-fighting efforts.
After reviewing the Agency’s structure and performance, Dr Ogunsan expressed strong confidence in what he saw. He praised the leadership and personnel of the LNSA for their commitment, especially in the face of operational difficulties.
Describing the Agency’s current trajectory as promising, he declared that a “new dawn” has begun – one that will focus on improving security systems, boosting efficiency, and delivering safer communities across Lagos.
The visit also reinforced a shared mission between both organisations: to tighten coordination, maximise resources, and build a more responsive security network for residents.
Backed by the administration of Babajide Sanwo-Olu, this growing synergy is expected to play a key role in addressing urban security challenges in one of Africa’s busiest cities, where population growth and economic activity continue to put pressure on safety systems.
With stronger partnerships and renewed focus, Lagos authorities are signalling that community security is no longer just a priority – it’s becoming a coordinated, system-wide mission.
