The Lagos State Taskforce is back on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road, making sure everyone follows the rules. They’re cracking down on those who break traffic laws, ride motorcycles where they shouldn’t, and have built illegal shops on the roadside.
The task force didn’t waste any time, grabbing over 50 motorcycles and stopping 10 vehicles for different traffic offences.
Jubril Gawat, who helps Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu with media stuff, shared videos of the operation on X (formerly Twitter) this Sunday. The videos showed the task force dealing with drivers, motorcycle riders, and illegal buildings that were causing trouble on the road.
They’re focusing on things like motorcycles going where they’re not allowed, people driving the wrong way, and shacks popping up along the coastal road. They even took a motorcycle from a delivery guy.
The goal is to stop motorcycles from using highways (which is against the rules in Lagos), prevent people from driving against traffic, and get rid of those roadside shacks. They’ve already taken over 50 motorcycles off the road, and 10 drivers are going to court for driving the wrong way. And they’re not stopping there.
This all ties back to what Tokunbo Wahab, the person in charge of the environment and water, talked about last year. He said they were going to keep things clean and manage traffic better.
Back in November, Wahab said they were clearing out Lakowe, taking down illegal shacks and shops that were blocking drains and making it hard for people to walk. He also said they were going after street sellers and anyone messing with the environment in the area.
The reason for all this? People have been complaining about drivers going the wrong way and motorcycles driving recklessly, even though motorcycles aren’t allowed on major highways.
The state government says they’re just trying to make things safer, bring order to the roads, and protect the new Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road. They want to prevent messing up the new road.
