President Bola Tinubu has officially endorsed Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, as the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate for the 2027 Lagos gubernatorial election.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu disclosed the President’s endorsement on Wednesday, describing Hamzat as a “reliable partner” whose backing from Tinubu is a “bold statement of trust, confidence and assurance.”
“Today, HE President Bola Tinubu officially endorsed my Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, as the APC candidate for the 2027 Lagos gubernatorial election,” Sanwo-Olu wrote on X.
The Governor said he has no doubt that the vision for a greater Lagos they started together will have the leadership it needs to continue.
“Femi has been a reliable partner and seeing him receive the President’s backing is a bold statement of trust, confidence and assurance by our leader, that he is truly the best man for the job,” he added.
While noting that “there is still much to be done,” Sanwo-Olu said the path ahead for Lagos is clear under Hamzat’s potential leadership.
Hamzat, who has served as Deputy Governor since 2019, would be seeking to succeed Sanwo-Olu, who is currently in his second and final term.
