House of Representatives spokesperson, Akin Rotimi, has secured a sweeping victory in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Ekiti North I (Ikole/Oye) Federal Constituency ahead of the next general elections.
The lawmaker dominated the contest after winning 22 out of the 24 wards in the constituency, defeating eight other aspirants in the process.
Among those he overcame were former House member in the 7th Assembly, Bimbo Daramola, alongside Erelu Kemi Elebute-Halle, Gbenga Joseph, Prince Ayorinde Ejioye, Engr. Ayo Omotosho, Mrs. Funke Owoseni, Kayode Omoboya, and Barr. Yemi Ayodele Ayeni.
Before voting commenced across the wards, three aspirants — Mrs. Funke Owoseni, Mr. Kayode Omoboya, and Barr. Yemi Ayodele Ayeni — reportedly withdrew from the race and openly declared support for Rotimi’s re-election bid.
Rotimi had earlier received backing from several political stakeholders across the constituency, including local government chairmen, officials from Local Council Development Areas, councillors, ward chairmen, women and youth leaders, as well as other political office holders in Ekiti State. Supporters described his representation as accessible, consistent, and result-driven.
Speaking after the exercise, Rotimi said the outcome reflected the changing political landscape in the constituency and further strengthened his grassroots influence in Ekiti North I.
According to him, his performance in office and visibility in the 10th Assembly played a major role in earning the confidence of party members and delegates.
He added that his role as House spokesperson had increased his profile within the National Assembly and positioned him among the most recognised voices in the green chamber.
The lawmaker also praised the peaceful conduct of the APC primary, describing the exercise as competitive and a reflection of internal democracy within the Party, while noting that the result delivered a decisive mandate ahead of the general election cycle.
