Violence broke out during the APC primaries in Lagos on Saturday after armed hoodlums allegedly stormed the venue of the exercise, firing gunshots and throwing party members and residents into panic.
The unrest, which occurred in the Egbe area of Alimosho Local Government, forced delegates, voters and Party officials to flee for safety as the primary election process descended into chaos.
According to reports, the incident happened on Onilewura Street along Liasu Road when suspected thugs invaded the venue and began shooting sporadically, disrupting the exercise and causing widespread confusion.
Several people were reportedly injured during the attack, while some hoodlums allegedly used the commotion to rob attendees and residents of mobile phones and other valuables.
Confirming the incident, ASP Femi Adeoye said the Lagos State Police Command arrested 10 suspects in connection with the violence.
Adeoye stated that despite rumours circulating online, no deaths were recorded during the incident.
“The hoodlums responsible for the disturbance have been arrested and taken to Ikotun Divisional Police Station. A gun was also recovered from them,” he said.
The police spokesperson added that officers recovered a locally made firearm from the suspects during the operation.
He assured residents that investigations were ongoing and promised that everyone involved in the attack would be identified and prosecuted.
Adeoye also appealed to members of the public to remain calm and support security agencies with useful information that could assist the investigation.
Meanwhile, another disruption was reported during the APC primaries in Mushin Local Government Area, where tension and disagreements among supporters of rival aspirants sparked panic before voting could begin.
The disturbance reportedly affected the House of Representatives primary election for Mushin Constituency II, forcing party members and supporters to flee the venue amid fears of escalating violence.
Witnesses at the scene said confusion broke out after clashes involving supporters of different aspirants contesting for the Party’s ticket.
The disagreement reportedly triggered a stampede as delegates and loyalists rushed out of the area for safety.
Among the prominent contenders in the race are Seye Oladejo and incumbent lawmaker, Oluwatoyin Fayinka, who is seeking another term in office.
Several Party members have since expressed concerns over the violence and called on APC leaders and security agencies to ensure a peaceful and transparent primary process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
