A major power outage has hit key parts of Abuja, including the Presidential Villa, the Supreme Court and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) confirmed the development in a notice issued on Saturday, blaming the disruption on a technical fault affecting electricity supply across several areas of the Federal Capital Territory.
Among the locations affected are the State House, Supreme Court, Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Lugbe, Asokoro, Central Area and Garki Areas 2, 3, 7 and 8, alongside other parts of the nation’s capital.
AEDC also listed several hotels, embassies, government offices and residential districts currently impacted by the outage. These include Bolingo Hotel, Envoy Hotel, the European Union office, National Planning Commission, National Hospital, Treasury House, Karibu Hotel and parts of Asokoro.
Foreign missions affected include the embassies of Sudan, Egypt, Pakistan and India, while other locations named in the notice are Garki Village, Garki Market, Ubiaja Street, Kaltungo Street, Lagos Street, Oka Akoko Street, Yakubu Gowon Street, Gado Nasko Street and several government lodges belonging to Kano, Sokoto and Imo States.
Also affected are Justice Sowemimo and Hassan Musa Katsina Streets, parts of Jabi and Maitama, NIA, TY Danjuma Street, Aso Drive, NASS Annex, NJC, DIA, Command Guest House, War College, BAT Barracks, Aviation Village, Piwoye, Kapwa, Nicomsat, Korean School, Dunamis Church, Shoprite, River Park Estate and Airport Road.
Security and paramilitary facilities caught in the blackout include the Air Force Base, Immigration, Customs, Correctional Services and Civil Defence offices.
AEDC said engineers from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) are already working to restore electricity to the affected areas.
“We regret the inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience and understanding,” the company stated.
