The Kwankwasiyya Movement has dismissed reports suggesting its leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is planning to leave the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over recent candidate substitutions within the Party.
Reacting to the claims on Monday, the movement’s spokesperson, Habibu Sale Mohammed, described the reports as unfounded and insisted that neither Kwankwaso nor the Kwankwasiyya bloc had raised any complaints against the Party.
The clarification follows media reports alleging that the movement threatened to pull out of the NDC after some candidates initially nominated by the group were replaced.
The reports also claimed that the substitutions violated an earlier power-sharing arrangement reached within the Party.
However, Mohammed rejected the allegations outright.
“The Kwankwasiyya Movement, and neither its leader, is complaining,” he said.
He explained that the Party’s primaries were conducted on May 29 in accordance with the Electoral Act and guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), with winners duly affirmed on the same day.
According to him, stakeholders across the NDC had previously agreed to adopt a consensus arrangement where necessary, after which candidates were selected and submitted without any internal disputes.
Mohammed further stated that Kwankwaso had not communicated any dissatisfaction with the Party to the movement and stressed that the NDC remained the appropriate platform to address questions surrounding the reports.
His remarks come amid growing speculation over internal disagreements within the opposition party, particularly following claims of a widening rift over candidate selection and power-sharing arrangements.
