Nigerians to Observe Democracy Day on Friday
The Federal Government has declared Friday, June 12, 2026, a public holiday to mark Democracy Day.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government.
A statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, DDrMagdalene Ajani, confirmed the development on Thursday.
Why June 12 Is Important
According to the government, June 12 remains a historic date in Nigeria’s democratic journey.
