Sanwo-Olu Joins Catholics to Celebrate Cardinal Okogie’s Triple Jubilee in Lagos

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu joins Catholic faithful, dignitaries, and well-wishers at Holy Cross Cathedral to celebrate Cardinal Anthony Okogie’s 90th birthday, 60 years of priesthood, and 55 years as a bishop.

Lagos, Nigeria – Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu joined Catholic faithful, religious leaders, government officials, family members, and well-wishers at Holy Cross Cathedral, Lagos Island, to celebrate the remarkable life and legacy of His Eminence, Anthony Cardinal Olubunmi Okogie.

The special Thanksgiving service commemorated a rare triple milestone in the Cardinal’s life: his 90th birthday, the 60th anniversary of his priestly ordination, and the 55th anniversary of his episcopal ordination.

The event drew a distinguished gathering of clergy, political leaders, traditional rulers, and members of the Catholic community who came together to honour one of Nigeria’s most respected religious figures.

Governor Sanwo-Olu described Cardinal Okogie as a symbol of faith, integrity, courage, and selfless service whose influence has extended far beyond the Catholic Church. He noted that the Cardinal’s decades of spiritual leadership and advocacy for justice, peace, and good governance have left an enduring mark on Lagos State and Nigeria as a whole.

His outspoken defence of truth and the welfare of the people earned him respect across religious and political divides, making him one of the most influential voices in Nigeria’s religious landscape.
