Daddy Showkey to Celebrate 50 Years on Stage with Grand Lagos Concerts

LAGOS, NIGERIA – Veteran Nigerian music icon Daddy Showkey has announced plans to celebrate 50 years on stage with a week-long series of events coinciding with his 56th birthday in August.
The legendary singer, born John Odafe Asiemo, disclosed the plans during the Tochi Talks Diaspora podcast, revealing that the celebrations will begin during the week of his birthday on August 4.
According to Daddy Showkey, the festivities will include a major concert in Ajegunle, Lagos, on August 8, followed by a grand finale at Eko Hotel and Suites on August 9, where fans, colleagues and music lovers are expected to gather to honour his five decades in the entertainment industry.
Reflecting on the milestone, the veteran entertainer described the occasion as a celebration of a remarkable journey that has spanned half a century.
Daddy Showkey is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of Nigeria’s street-pop movement. Raised in the bustling Ajegunle community of Lagos, he rose to national prominence in the early 1990s with his energetic performances, signature Galala dance style, and songs that resonated with everyday Nigerians.
Throughout his career, he has released several memorable hits, including “Fire Fire,” “Diana,” “The Name,” “Ghetto Soldier,” and “Jehovah.” His music often blends themes of love, faith, social justice and life in the streets, earning him a lasting place in Nigeria’s music history.
