Students of the University of Uyo, UNIUYO, who have been waiting for their NELFUND upkeep allowances since January may soon get relief as the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, steps up efforts to resolve the payment crisis.
The students’ complaints have now been formally taken to the leadership of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND, with the students’ body assuring affected beneficiaries that the matter is receiving urgent attention.
In a statement issued on Sunday, July 26, 2026, the National President of NANS, Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, said the Association had escalated the issue following complaints from UNIUYO students who said they had not received their upkeep payments since January.
According to Akinteye, NELFUND had assured the student body that steps were being taken to resolve the problem as quickly as possible.
He urged the affected students to remain calm and hopeful as the payment process was being concluded, assuring them that NANS would continue engaging the relevant stakeholders until every legitimate complaint was addressed and all eligible beneficiaries received their entitlements.
“The welfare of Nigerian students remains our priority, and we will not relent in ensuring that their rights and interests are protected,” the NANS President stated.
He reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to advocating for the welfare of Nigerian students and ensuring that their concerns receive the necessary attention.
