iPhone 18 Review: Apple Finally Goes All-In on AI

Apple’s iPhone 18 is here, and it feels less like a yearly upgrade and more like a reset. After 3 years of iterative updates, Apple is betting big on AI, battery life, and a slimmer design to convince users to switch.
The headline feature is “Apple Intelligence 2.0” baked directly into iOS 26. The new on-device model runs across Mail, Notes, Camera, and Siri without needing the cloud. In testing, Siri finally felt useful; it could summarise 20 WhatsApp messages, draft replies in your tone, and book a ride while reading your calendar. It’s fast, private, and works offline, which is a big win.
Hardware-wise, the iPhone 18 Pro drops 12g thanks to Apple’s new titanium-aluminium hybrid frame. The 6.3-inch Pro and 6.9-inch Pro Max both get “ProMotion XDR 2” displays with 3000 nits peak brightness. Outdoors in the Lagos sun? No problem. The standard iPhone 18 gets the A18 chip, while the Pro models run the new A18 Pro with a 16-core Neural Engine. Apps open instantly, and 120 fps gaming is now standard.

Camera is where Apple played it safe but smart. The 48MP main sensor is the same, but the new AI photo pipeline cleans up night shots and video like never before. The 5x tetraprism zoom on the Pro Max is sharper, with less noise. Video now does 8K at 30fps, and “Cinematic Audio” uses AI to isolate voices in noisy places.
Battery life is the sleeper hit. Apple fitted a stacked battery and a more efficient chip, pushing the Pro Max to ∼30 hours of real use. Charging is still 35W wired, but MagSafe now hits 25W.The catch? Price. The iPhone 18 starts at $899, and the Pro Max now starts at $1,299. Also, Apple Intelligence 2.0 is currently only in English, with more languages rolling out later in 2026.
Verdict:
The iPhone 18 isn’t perfect, but it’s the first iPhone in years that feels future-facing. If you care about AI that actually works on your phone, better battery, and a lighter build, this is the one to get. If you’re on a 15 Pro or 16 Pro, you can probably wait, unless AI is your thing.
