LNSA Task Force Arrests Over 130 Suspected Hoodlums in Victoria Island, Lekki-Ajah
The overnight operation targeted reported criminal activities against motorists, with suspects taken for screening, identification and profiling.
LAGOS — The Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency (LNSA) Special Task Force has arrested more than 130 suspected hoodlums during an early-morning security operation across parts of Victoria Island, Lekki-Ajah, and the Coastal Road.
The operation, which began at approximately 2 am, followed reports of criminal activities allegedly targeting motorists and other road users, particularly during periods of traffic congestion along the busy routes.
The operation was led by the General Manager of the LNSA, Prince Dr Ifalade Ajasa Oyekan, FISN, JP, with support from the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) and an armed detachment of the Nigeria Police Force.
According to the agency, the police support was facilitated by the Chief Security Officer to the Lagos State Governor, Mr Kunle Fagbemi, as part of the coordinated effort to strengthen security and protect residents and motorists within the affected areas.
Suspects Taken for Screening and Profiling
Following the arrests, the over 130 suspects were subjected to screening and were presented to the LASSRA team domiciled with the LNSA for identification and profiling.
The profiling exercise is expected to assist authorities in establishing the identities and backgrounds of the suspects and determining whether any of them are linked to reported criminal activities.
The LNSA said that investigations would be conducted thoroughly before further action is taken.
Suspects found to have committed offences will be charged before the appropriate courts in accordance with the law.
The agency also stated that individuals identified as requiring alternative forms of intervention would be handled through the appropriate legal and administrative processes.
Operation Targets Criminal Activities Around Traffic Congestion
The security operation comes amid concerns over criminal activities allegedly taking place around areas where motorists are forced to slow down or remain in traffic.
Victoria Island, Lekki and the Ajah axis are among Lagos’ major commercial and residential corridors, with significant daily movement of motorists, residents and visitors.
The LNSA said the latest operation was part of efforts to ensure that people using the roads can travel without fear of harassment or attack.
Speaking on the operation, the LNSA General Manager reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to protecting lives and property across Lagos State.
He stressed the importance of sustained collaboration among security and enforcement agencies in tackling activities capable of threatening public safety.
LNSA Commends Supporting Agencies
Prince Oyekan commended the KAI task force and the Nigeria Police Force for their professionalism, coordination and commitment during the operation.
He also expressed appreciation to Lagos State Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor Dr Obafemi Hamzat, and the Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Gbenga Oyerinde, for their continued support towards strengthening security across the state.
The LNSA said the success of the operation demonstrated the importance of inter-agency cooperation in responding to security concerns in densely populated and strategically important parts of Lagos.
More Joint Operations Planned
The agency assured Lagos residents that the latest operation would not be an isolated exercise.
According to the LNSA, similar joint operations will continue at strategic locations across the state as authorities intensify efforts to deter criminal activities and enhance public safety.
The agency urged residents and motorists to remain vigilant and cooperate with security personnel carrying out legitimate operations.
The LNSA maintained that its priority remains the protection of lives and property and the creation of an environment where residents, commuters and motorists can move around Lagos without fear of harassment or criminal attacks.
