Omotola Jalade: Forcing Actors to Dance Online Diminishes Film Industry Professionalism
Omotola Jalade, a Nollywood star with years of experience, isn’t too happy with the latest trend of actors having to dance on social media to promote their movies. She thinks it’s not very professional.
In a chat with TVC, Omotola mentioned that while she likes to dance, she believes it should be something actors do because they want to, not because they have to in order to get people to watch their films.
She pointed out that people are starting to dislike this kind of promotion because actors feel pressured to do crazy things online just to get noticed. There’s a big difference between being excited to promote a project and feeling like you’re being forced to do it.
Omotola feels that her job is to act in the movie, talk about it, and do the usual promotional stuff. Marketing and advertising should be left to the experts who know how to distribute films.
She also said that making actors do these kinds of performances takes away from the professionalism of the movie industry. It shifts the focus from the actual creative work that goes into making a film. Instead of concentrating on acting and storytelling, everyone’s worried about who can come up with the next viral dance. This, in her opinion, isn’t good for the industry in the long run. It might get some quick attention, but it doesn’t really show the talent and hard work that goes into making a movie.
