Apple Unveils iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max With Major Camera, Battery and AI Upgrades
Apple’s latest Pro iPhones introduce a variable-aperture camera system, A20 Pro chip, improved battery life, a smaller Dynamic Island and a new Siri AI experience.
CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA — Apple has officially unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, introducing major upgrades to the camera system, performance, battery life and artificial intelligence.
The new smartphones were announced on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, as part of Apple’s latest iPhone launch.
According to Apple, the iPhone 18 Pro lineup features the company’s most advanced iPhone camera system to date, led by a new 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera with variable aperture.
The variable-aperture system gives users greater control over photography by allowing the camera to adjust how much light enters the lens and control depth of field. Apple says the technology can improve low-light photography, detail in group photographs and creative photography options.
For professional photographers and content creators, the camera upgrade is one of the biggest changes introduced with the new generation.
Powered by the A20 Pro chip
The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are powered by Apple’s new A20 Pro chip, which the company says delivers its highest sustained performance ever in an iPhone.
Apple has also introduced a redesigned thermal management system featuring a next-generation vapour chamber. The company says the new system provides up to a 40 per cent improvement in sustained performance compared with the previous generation.
Bigger battery improvements
Battery life has also received a significant upgrade.
Apple says the iPhone 18 Pro can deliver up to 36 hours of video playback, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max can deliver up to 45 hours on eSIM-only models.
The Pro Max is described by Apple as having the biggest increase in battery life ever seen on an iPhone.
The phones also support faster charging, with Apple saying the iPhone 18 Pro can reach 50 per cent charge in around 15 minutes using wired charging.
New Siri AI
The iPhone 18 Pro models come with iOS 27 and Apple’s next generation of Apple Intelligence.
A major feature is the new Siri AI, which Apple says is designed to be more personal, capable and conversational.
The upgraded Siri can use personal context to help users find information across messages, emails and photos. It can also understand what is displayed on the screen and take actions based on that information.
Siri AI will initially roll out as a beta experience.
Smaller Dynamic Island
Apple has also redesigned the Dynamic Island, making it smaller while retaining its interactive functions.
The company says the new design provides users with more usable screen space while maintaining quick access to alerts and controls.
New colours and storage options
The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max will be available in black, silver, glacier and a new burgundy finish.
Both models will be offered with storage capacities ranging from 256GB to 2TB.
For UK customers, the iPhone 18 Pro starts at £1,199, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at £1,299.
Pre-orders begin on Saturday, September 12, with the phones becoming available from Friday, September 18, in the UK and more than 65 other countries and regions.
Apple’s latest launch comes alongside the company’s first foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo, marking one of the biggest expansions of the iPhone lineup in the company’s history.
