Beatrice Ekweremadu Arrives Nigeria After Serving Prison Sentence in the UK

Beatrice Ekweremadu, the wife of Ike Ekweremadu, a former Deputy Senate President, is back in Nigeria. She’s returning after spending two years in a UK prison.

She and her husband were found guilty of their part in a conspiracy about organ harvesting.

Ike got a prison sentence of nine years and eight months. Beatrice received four years and six months for helping Ukpo David, a 21-year-old from Nigeria, travel to the UK.

The couple wanted to harvest Ukpo’s kidney for their daughter Sonia, who has a long-term kidney problem. They contacted Ukpo through Obinna Obeta, who acted as a go-between. Obeta is still in jail in the UK, serving a 10-year sentence. They were all prosecuted under the UK’s Modern Slavery Act 2015.

Beatrice arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Tuesday, January 21. Friends and family greeted her after the legal case that began in 2022

Her return has caused a lot of excitement in her hometown of Mpu, in the Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State. Many people are looking forward to her coming home.

Her husband is still in prison in the UK.
