The Senate has reversed its decision to call for the removal of Hussaini Magaji, Registrar-General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), following his personal apology to lawmakers. Magaji had failed to honour invitations from the Senate Committee on Finance, citing a communication gap between his office and the National Assembly liaison unit.
The committee had expressed disappointment with Magaji’s repeated absence and the delegation of senior officers to represent him. However, after his apology and assurance to improve communication, some lawmakers defended him, citing his remorsefulness and disciplined disposition.
Senators Dicket Plang, Yahaya Abdullahi, and Ned Nwoko urged the committee to forgive Magaji, emphasising the importance of accountability and respect for lawmakers’ summons. The motion to rescind the sacking call was moved by Sen. Isa Jibrin and seconded by Sen. Sani Daura ¹.
Magaji will reappear before the committee to defend the CAC’s 2024 and 2025 budget performance and 2026 budget proposal.
