Deadly Gun Attacks Shake Plateau State Community: Students Flee in Panic.
Panic and terror swept through Ban community, near Plateau State Polytechnic, late Wednesday night after suspected gunmen stormed the area, killing two people and injuring several others.
The assault, which erupted around 11:00 p.m., sent residents — including off-campus students — fleeing for their lives as gunfire rang out across the neighborhood.
Sources said at least, three people were shot and rushed to nearby hospitals, while two victims were confirmed dead. The sudden violence caused chaos, with students abandoning their lodgings in fear of further attacks.
“It was terrifying. The gunmen fired relentlessly for almost an hour. We had no choice but to escape,” said James Nanbut, a student at the polytechnic.
Hours earlier, another deadly incident had occurred in Riyom Local Government Area, amplifying tension across the region. Around 8:15 p.m., gunmen ambushed a group of youths on the road between Baten village in Wereng Ward and Du’a Village in Kwi Ward, killing 27-year-old Amos Monday.
These back-to-back attacks have sparked renewed concerns over the worsening insecurity in Plateau State, particularly in Riyom, Jos South, and Barkin Ladi.
Rwang Tengwong, spokesperson for the Berom Youth Moulders, confirmed both attacks and urged residents to stay vigilant.
“We are calling on people in Kwi, Wereng, and neighbouring communities to remain alert and take all necessary precautions,” he said.
Attempts to reach the Plateau State Police Command for comments were unsuccessful, as messages and calls to spokesperson SP Alfred Alabo went unanswered.
Meanwhile, anxiety continues to rise among residents and students as uncertainty hangs over the safety of the area.
