A dawn raid by troops of the Nigerian Army’s Operation Eastern Sanity II has led to the arrest of three suspects and the recovery of explosive materials during an operation in Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State.
In a statement released on Saturday, May 23, 2026, the military disclosed that the operation was launched after security agencies received credible intelligence linking suspected cultists and other criminal elements to activities in Achi Town.
According to the statement, troops stationed in Oji River, alongside Keystone personnel from the local government area, stormed a building believed to be serving as a hideout for suspected criminals at about 4:30 a.m.
The Army said the operation led to the recovery of eight motorcycles and two buckets containing locally made gunpowder suspected to have been prepared for criminal operations.
The suspects arrested during the raid were identified as Mr. Ozor Benjamin, 85, from Isikwe Achi; Mrs. Miracle Eze, 26, and Mrs. Ogechukwu Okorie, 29, both from Umuoka Achi in Oji River LGA of Enugu State.
“During the operation, troops recovered eight motorcycles and two buckets of locally made gun powder suspected to be used for criminal activities,” the statement said.
Military authorities added that the suspects and all recovered items had been handed over to Keystone personnel in Oji River for further investigation and other necessary actions.
The Army said the success of the operation reflects the resolve of Operation Eastern Sanity II and other security agencies to intensify pressure on criminal groups threatening peace and security across the South-East.
“The successful operation highlights the commitment of Operation Eastern Sanity II troops and other security agencies to sustaining offensive operations against criminal elements threatening peace and security in the South East region,” the statement read.
The military further assured residents that troops would continue operations aimed at denying criminal elements freedom of movement, while urging members of the public to keep supplying timely and credible intelligence to security agencies.
