The First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, will lead advocacy for the national programme on energy innovation and commercialisation, which is aimed at promoting the country’s economic development.
The Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr Kingsley Udeh, announced this after a meeting with the First Lady at the State House. In an interview with a journalist in Abuja, the capital, the minister explained that the programme, under his ministry, is part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and linked to the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) of the First Lady.
He added that the programme aims to create jobs, commercialise innovative works, and support economic growth and sustainability. Udeh stated the involvement of the First Lady would guarantee the programme’s nationwide implementation.
According to him, the project is designed to boost economic growth and enhance the financial capacity of the people through their production.
“I came to brief her on this national programme which connects research outcomes and inventions, done in our higher and research institutions, across public and private sectors, to the markets. This will help by connecting researchers, inventors and innovators to investors. The Federal Government will de-risk these investments to give confidence to the investors,” he said.
Udeh also noted that the government is leveraging the First Lady’s RHI platform to reach grassroots Nigerians who are keen to embrace innovation. “Her being part of this is a major boost to the projects,” he added.
