Five Kwara Church Worshippers Die in Captivity, One Escapes

Rev Sunday Omole, minister of the Evangelical Church Winning All, ECWA, Omugo, addressed the congregation on Wednesday, with a message of grief and faith. “It is with deep pain in my heart that I inform the church, families and individuals concerned regarding the eight people that were abducted from ECWA Omugo on March 22, 2026,” he said. “We received information yesterday that five of our people have gone to be with the Lord while three remain in captivity with the terrorists.”

Omole urged members to remain steadfast in prayer as the church continues to seek the release of the remaining abductees. He called on the government and security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue those still held and to put an end to attacks on worship centers across the state.

The attack on ECWA Omugo occurred during a Sunday service on March 22, 2026, when gunmen stormed the church and abducted eight worshippers. For over two months, families and church members have held prayer vigils and negotiations for their release.

The news of the five deaths in captivity has thrown the Omugo community and ECWA members across Kwara State into mourning. Relatives of the deceased have confirmed the identities of their loved ones, while efforts continue to secure the freedom of the three remaining victims.

Security agencies and local authorities have yet to release an official statement on the latest development. Community leaders have appealed for calm and urged residents to cooperate with security operatives as investigations continue.
