Motorists travelling along the busy Ikorodu-Sagamu corridor are set to face major traffic disruptions as the Federal Government has announced a partial closure of the road for reconstruction works beginning Monday.
The Federal Ministry of Works disclosed that the affected sections would undergo intensive repairs as contractors return to site to complete critical portions of the project.
The Federal Controller of Works in Ogun State, Olayiwola Komolafe, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Saturday.
According to him, the directive followed an order by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, instructing construction firm, Arab Contractors, to resume work immediately to fast-track delivery of the highway project.
Komolafe said the sections affected include the stretch from Ikorodu Roundabout to Sabo Junction in Lagos, as well as the Cement to Coca-Cola axis inward Sagamu.
He explained that vehicles travelling from Ikorodu toward Sagamu would be redirected through construction corridors under a counterflow arrangement during the repair period.
The reconstruction is expected to last for three months to allow for full construction activities and proper curing of the rigid pavement.
To ease congestion and maintain order, officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority will be deployed to manage traffic across the affected routes.
Komolafe appealed to motorists to cooperate with traffic officials and law enforcement personnel throughout the duration of the project.
He also expressed regret over the inconvenience commuters and other road users may experience as reconstruction work progresses.
