A major shake-up has hit the Kwara State Government as Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq relieved his Deputy Chief of Staff, Principal Private Secretary and several political appointees of their positions in what he described as a minor cabinet reshuffle.
The decision was announced in a statement issued on Monday by the Deputy Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mashood Agboola, who said the exercise also affected all Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants and Special Assistants serving in the administration.
According to the statement, Governor AbdulRazaq explained that the move was aimed at creating room for more Party members to serve and bring fresh energy into the government.
The Governor directed all affected appointees to hand over every government property in their possession to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government.
“His Excellency expresses his gratitude to all the appointees for their priceless service to the State.
“He wishes them the best in their future endeavours,” the statement said in part.
Meanwhile, the development comes amid growing unrest within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State, with ten governorship aspirants petitioning President Bola Tinubu over what they described as a worsening crisis in the Party.
The aspirants accused Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of having “lost moral and political authority” to determine the direction and future of the APC in the State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In the petition addressed to President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the aggrieved aspirants warned that the Party could slide deeper into division without urgent intervention from the national leadership.
Those who signed the petition are Dr. Oluwatoyin Tajudeen Alabi, Capt. Ahmad Mahmud, Alhaji Tajudeen Audu, Dr. Azeez Salako Muideen Olaniyi, Ambassador Yahaya Seriki Gambari, Senator Saliu Mustapha, Dr. Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa, Hon. Omar Muhammed Bio, Dele Belgore, SAN, and Senator Yahaya Ibrahim Oloriegbe.
The governorship hopefuls, however, reaffirmed their loyalty and commitment to President Tinubu and his administration.
